Obv...That's the problem with going over Canada. Obviously, if it's a real emergency, then down you go. But if it's not, and you land without having done eAPIS and all that customs rigmarole, getting home is going to be tough. I always bring our passports just in case, but I'd rather not have to deal with that situation unless it's necessary. The lesson here is that we're all lucky that I married MacGyver.

As for the three strike rule, I use something similar, but I don't include nuisance stuff as a strike because it's easily corrected (stuff like the database and the tires). It's just an unexpected delay. I spent a lot of time worrying about the weather in advance, but there wasn't a bit of convective activity along the route. I HAVE scrubbed flights along that route in the past because of a combination of night, strong headwind, and likely icing (not to mention the reduced options for landing in Canada where the only "out" will mean a bureaucratic nightmare for the return home). That's just too many risk factors all piled up on top of one another.

Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11846593737518887287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2910924549702235794.post-77777275476617872622016-07-25T15:57:26.017-04:002016-07-25T15:57:26.017-04:00Not sure I would have made that flight with my thr...Not sure I would have made that flight with my three strike rule. Not sure why I use it, just a comfort thing I guess to remind me when I'm having a bad day.

Good to see you got everything taken care of and launched. Family business is sometimes very trying, glad it all worked out.

I haven't had to deal with the 'over water' long duration, instead just off the coast. It sounds like you handled that very well and ended up back on your initial course. At least you had ATC laughing. Bear, Mary feels your pain, she makes me stop, there is no alternative plan.Garyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14637264267903131611noreply@blogger.com
